Golf Newsletter - March 2012

Vice President Returns

Unfortunately, the tremendous amount of rain forced the postponement of the Morisset hopefully in May. A special thank you to all who helped prepare for our Open, especially the Greens Staff who put in many extra hours to have the course at its best.

Ball Distribution

Following discussions with the Country Club, there has been a small increase in prize money allocated from your $14.00 game fee. These funds have been allocated to the ball competition and hopefully you will see the benefits in the ball distribution from mid-March.

It is really great to be back playing Golf at Morisset again after nearly 2 ½ years in Coffs Harbour, it is great catching up with old friends & to see what they have been up to.

As newly elected to the Golf Committee, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Committee members & Nathan’s ground staff for the great work they have done in keeping the Golf Course in great condition for all our members to play on during the last couple of wet months.

The changes to the course have been very well received, the new chipping green & bunker will be well used in the future by all, also all the other work carried out on the course by a team of workers that don’t get a great deal of recognition they are the volunteers & I say thank you!

Remember Hit them long & straight & no 3 putts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Handicapping

Non return of cards and/or the insertion of a zero score is still causing problems with handicaps.

If you become unwell or have an accident during a round & are unable to complete the game then please note on the unused part of the card in clear writing your explanation & return the card. These cards may be treated as approved NCR’s do not enter the incomplete score in the computer. If in the case of severe storms or the competition is abandoned then the incomplete cards are treated as approved NCR’s which will make no change to the handicap.

Alteration of the result sheet for approved NCR’s will be made by the Committee when closing the competition.

In stroke events a zero score with an NCR is NOT ACCEPTABLE as it will cause extreme variations to handicaps. If for whatever reason you elect wipe a hole then insert the lowest score that would give you a stableford “wipe” and enter this score in the computer & select the “DISQUALIFY” BUTTON.

In par & stableford events insert the actual score in the computer & you may disqualify if you wish.

Disqualified scores are still used for handicapping.

Golf Club policy for NCR’s is in stroke events, a nett score of 72, stableford, a score of 36, & in par, a score 0 will be inserted by the committee & the card will be disqualified. This may result in a reduction to the handicap.

WELCOME MEMBERS & GOLFERS TO MY MARCH NEWSLETTER.

Rain, rain go away, come back another day. We all used to say it when we were kids, now we want it to go away for a year or more. If you were to say the start to 2012 has been a challenge than that would have to be the understatement of the year. I was looking at the radar the other day, a daily ritual I'm getting sick of doing and got a real shock when it said we had had over 13 inches for 2012 this year. 354.8mm to be exact. Just over 2 months and all this bloody rain.

WELL DONE TO OUR GREENSTAFF

We can get depressed but we must remember a lot of people have suffered a lot more than us during this high period of rainfall. I must congratulate Nathan Reynolds on the great job he has done along with all his staff in keeping the course in magnificent condition. We have been extremely lucky to have had carts on as much as we have and for this I’m sure you are all grateful.

Keep up the great work boys.

NEW CHIPPING GREEN

Our New chipping facility has officially opened and what a great facility it is. Once again well done to our Greenstaff and Golf committee on the tremendous job it building a real 1st class facility for the golfers at Morisset. It has seen an influx of members, juniors and social golfers testing it out and trying to improve their game. We all must remember that chipping and putting make up nearly half our golf games so don't delay, come on over and try it out.

MORISSET OPEN POSTPONED

Last week we were scheduled to host our 2012 Hope Mullard Morisset Open but due to the heavy rains we have had to postpone the event to May 5. This date is yet to be confirmed by NSW Golf but hopefully we can lock it in and move on. We had over 220 down for this day so we are still hoping for a bumper field come May 5.

Entries will open for this event 2 weeks prior so I will keep you all posted.

2012 EASTER CLASSIC
The years seem to go quicker and quicker and with only 4 weeks away it will be Easter. We all know what that means, The 2012 Sencon Building Consultants Easter Classic. Once again Mick Senam has confirmed his sponsorship and we must thank Mick for the years of support. The event has grown each year and weather permitting it should be a great 3 days. The event once again kicks off on Friday 6 April with the friendly mixed 4bbb. It is always a fun event and a great way to start what is a fantastic 3 day carnival. The weekend consists of two days of 18 hole stableford. Trophies for men, women, 18 holes and 36 holes. We are also running our special Junior Easter Classic once again. As I said it is a fun 3 days and with over $4000 in trophies it is an event not to be missed. Tell your friends and get an entry form and enter today.

HEAPS OF STOCK

Well with all this rain the only thing that has dried up is my sales. I have plenty of new stock for all types of golfers. The NEW Taylor made RBZ and R11S drivers and Fairways have hit the shelves along with the NEW Callaway Razor Black and Razor Fit Wood range. I have plenty of demos and with a very healthy Aussie dollar the RRP's are very competitive. Drop in and try one today. For our fashion onscience golfers I have a whole new range of Greg Norman shorts and polo’s along with new ladies range from Adidas, Nivo, Izone and the ever popular Sporte Leisure. I have the ever popular Solar umbrella back in stock and plenty of nick naks for the keen/mad golfer. All I ask is when you need any golfing equipment please ask your local golf professional first.

NEW INDOOR TEACHING FACILTY
Good news for all our members and keen golfers with the news that we are getting an indoor teaching shed on the back of the practice tee. The shed as it will be known will be used to teach in wet weather and to professionally fit the many golfers when buying new clubs.

A big thank you to Morisset Country Club and Classic Country Cottages for making this happen. It will only add to the facilities we now offer at our club and hopefully bring more potential golfers and members to our course.

RIP- KEN GEDDES
I was very sad to hear of the passing of club member Ken Geddes. Ken was a real gentleman and enjoyed his golf at Morisset on a Tuesday afternoon and Thursday morning. Ken played a lot of golf with his mates, Don Schultz, Rob McAulay, Ray Glanville, Ian and Anne Pike, Norm James and Ray Menmuir. He will be sadly missed by all his golfing mates and we all wish his family and friends the very best at this difficult time. Members and golfing friends I hope you enjoy this month’s newsletter. Let’s continue to pray that the rain eases and we can get some golf in over the next few months.

Take care and play well.
Your Local Pro.
Dave Stretton.

Another month gone to quickly I would thank all our members for their patience with the cart restrictions that we have had due to the extraordinary amount of rain in the last month. We are fortunate that our course supervisor Nathan understands the importance of getting members out and playing so a big thank you to Nathan and also our members for following the cart restrictions

Our pennant season has started and we have had mixed success among our grades but I hope that all the players are enjoying playing at other courses and meeting members from our neighbouring clubs We have had some slow play in the past few weeks so remember that your group is responsible for pace of play please remember that you can call up on par 3’s and if your are running behind once two players have putted out have them move to next tee to hit off. If you do this for a couple of holes you can make up any lost ground quickly.

That’s all for now please remember that Morisset is your course and always fill in your divots and lob marks on the green see you on course

Course Changes

A special thanks to all the volunteers who worked very hard to remove all of the turf from the damaged 13th green to the new nursery (near the 3rd green).

Peter, the assistant Superintendent has planned up the renovation of the 15th green, two drainage lines on the right hand side and one across the front. Your help in assisting him in this task will be invaluable so please look near the Pro Shop for when assistance will be required.

Renovation of the 13th and 14th Greens will begin in the next few weeks, with the temporary couch greens coming into play.

Thanks very much,

Bryce James
