December 2012 Newsletter
The Board of Directors, Club Management & Staff would like to thank all members for their support through the year. We would also take this opportunity to announce a few changes and upcoming events;
We have for many years carried more machines on floor than we need – particularly since the anti smoking legislation took effect- & given forthcoming changes to legislation that will increase the cost of holding excess numbers & cause a drop in the market value of entitlements the Board felt the luxury of holding on to more machine entitlements than we needed should be reviewed. Accordingly, the Club has sold off 6 entitlements to Central Charlestown Leagues Club at very attractive price. Statistical analysis indicates the remaining 35 entitlements on floor will more than meet current & future needs.
Part of the sale proceeds will go towards replacing the yellow trellis style screening in the gaming area with more modern & attractive smoked glass partitioning. Our plans to have an outdoor gaming/smoking area went along with FM Solutions pulling out of their association with the club but we plan to install better, more comfortable all weather facilities for our smoking patrons along the existing smokers area on the southern veranda.
Monday nights are very quiet & hardly justify staying open until 9pm or so whereas our 7pm early close Tuesday nights often becomes quite busy leading up to close time. So we will swap closing times around from 1st Jan 2013 i.e. we will close at 7pm on Mondays and remain open until 9pm on Tuesdays.
A new form of entertainment will be introduced for the 2nd& 4th Thursday of each month starting 10th January 2013. The “Open Mike” format provides for local artists, be they budding novices or experienced performers, to come along & perform new material or practice versions of standards in front of an audience in a club environment from the stage in the main lounge. It’s not a talent contest or Karaoke but should appeal to participants & patrons alike should be a lot of fun … stay tuned for more information!
We will be staying with the same Friday format in the New Year but the Sunday Variety Raffle will be tweaked to feature more retail outlet voucher prizes, a different prize allocation format & a few other changes. Stay tuned for detailed information from Deborah.
We had a great response to our “Pink” & “Mental as Anything” shows this year thanks to the enthusiasm from all floor staff and in particular Deborah & have booked an exciting programme for 2013 which includes;
April: “Fleetwood Mac” Tribute Show
June: “Night Fever” Theatre Restaurant Night
September: “Choir Boys” The REAL Deal!!
November: “INXS” Tribute Show
Deborah is also working on filling in a few gaps on Friday & Saturday nights in the Main Lounge & details will be available through the usual in house & other promotional outlets.
So, it’s been another tough year lowlighted by prolonged periods of wet weather early in the year, vandal damage to 5 golf greens, FM Solutions bailing out in July and rising cost across the board – but we made it through once again & now look forward to a bigger, better & brighter 2013.
On behalf of the Directors and Staff.
